Any genuine Fw 190 is rare and a Longnose-Dora even more so. The fact that this happens to be the only surviving Fw 190D-13 makes no real difference I'd say, but this claim to fame was given as the reason why the aircraft was not being flown.

This Fw 190, on display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center, was built in late 1943 as the A-7 fighter 640049. After suffering combat damage it was repaired and remanufactured into an Fw 190 F-8 fighter-bomber with a new Werk-Nummer. The conversion involved fitting a new wing and bomb racks to the original fuselage and adding armour plate around and beneath the cockpit. Reissued to the Luftwaffe, the aircraft flew on the Eastern Front, probably with SG 2 based in Hungary in Oct. 1944.

This plane is a new reproduction build by Flug + Werk GmbH from the ground up using many original dies, plans and other information from WWII. Werk numbers continued from where Focke-Wulf left off, with the new Fw 190s being labeled 'Fw 190 A-#/N' (N for Nachbau 'replica'). This example is part of the Planes of Fame museum and wears the scheme of Luftwaffe ace Oskar Bosch.

Renowned warbird and racing pilot Steve Hinton fires up this magnificently restored plane on the apron in front of the Flying Heritage Collection hangar. You can imagine how nice this sounded! This was the FHC 'Luftwaffe Day' and was the first time since WWII that a Fw-190 and a Bf-109 have flown together. It was a wonderful day for an aviation fan like me and will be remembered for a long time.

Built by Focke-Wulf in Bremen in 1944, this aircraft, belonging to 16./JG 3 at Gütersloh, was shot down by P-47s at Pulheim near Cologne on 17 December 1944. The pilot, Lt Rolf Lahne, was probably killed, but no human remains were found when the wreck of his Fw 190A-8/R2 was unearthed. It has been restored using original and new Flugwerk parts, including a BMW 801S-1 engine belonging to a Fw 190A-9.

The Fw 190 has longer legs than Marlene Dietrich, so thanks to the friendly custodian for letting me use the museum's stepladder. This reconstructed aircraft bears the markings of 6./JG I, based at Salzwedel in 1944.

Nothing is known about this aircraft's service with the Luftwaffe other than it was built as a single seater, converted and used by Air Fighting School 103. After the war it was flown to RAE Farnborough but placed immediately into storage before, ending up on display at the RAF Museum. The markings are from a 1G/JG54 Fw-190 serving on the Eastern Front.

German AF 2219 built 1942 and coded KI-GX, later recoded 3 black. On a mission on 05-Oct-1943 from Petsamo in the Soviet Union it was running into heavy snowstorms and ran out of fuel. The pilot bailed out and the aircraft hit the ground west of Kongsfjord in Norway. In 1986 the wreck was recovered from the crash site and restored for display at the Norsk Luftfartsmuseum in Bodø. It carries the 14/JG5 badge
