This historic aircraft was the first single-engine aircraft to fly from England to Australia, in 1920. The journey took an incredible 206 days, including two forced landings in the Middle East and a crash at Moulmein, Burma. The letters 'PD' are Parer & McIntosh's sponsor, Peter Dawson whiskey distillers. Built for the RAF as F1278 in 1918, the aircraft was purchased by the AWM for 250 pounds in 1922. Restored 1975-1990.

This Huey was allocated the US serial 63-13587 for administrative purposes, but was delivered new to 9 Sqn RAAF in 1964. Shipped to Vietnam, it served there 1966-68. During that time it saw action at most of the major Australian battles, including being shot down in April 1967. As a result a new tailboom had to be grafted on to the forward fuselage. Allocated to the AWM in 1985 and displayed since 2007 in this very realistic action diorama.

This Wirraway is a genuine combat veteran: victor, no less, over a Japanese fighter (probably a Ki 43 Hayabusa/'Oscar') near Buna, Papua New Guinea, on 26 December 1942. The aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in September 1940 and allocated to 4 Squadron. After combat service mainly in the FAC role, returned to Australia in early 1943 and spent the remainder of the war mostly with 5 SFTS, Uranquinty. Post-war, stored 1945-50 Tocumwal, then allocated 1 AFTS Point Cook 1951-57. Allocated to AWM 1959.
