One of 224 Packets built for the USAF (as 44-23033), of which about half were offered to the civil market from 1954, some undergoing Jet-Pak conversion by Steward-Davies with the addition of a J34 jet on top of the fuselage. Without this, the aircraft's engine-out performance was virtually zero. This one was not converted and was last registered to New Frontier Airlift Corp in Feb 1962, although still in USAF marks when seen here. Wreck noted during 2001 at Davis-Monthan in the yard of National Aircraft, Kolb Rd.

Of all my trips to Russia & the CIS, this has to be one of the very best, with superb photo opportunities of great subjects - as a huge fan of Russian types, it was perfection. Although I'd already shot this colourful 134 in Moscow, it was good to catch it with this interesting backdrop, with parts of the old and new terminals visible. Built 7.77, from Aeroflot to Komiavia 4.95 and Atyrau 12.98; seen at Atyrau airport in 2013 with registration painted out

The Kazakh alps provide a fine backdrop for some photos at Almaty. This Il-86 was completed in 11.84 and transferred from Aeroflot to Kazakstan Airlines in 1996, quickly passing on to Air Kazakstan. To East Line a matter of days after this shot and became RA-86144 in 6.02. Absorbed into Russian Sky in 5.05 but on CofA expiry early the next year, returned to Almaty for spares use and b/u 2014

Starting out as G-AZLJ with Aurigny in 1.72, the registration shown here is derived from the aircraft's acquisition by Regency Airways in 1.87. Changed hands several times and to Willow Air in 11.92. With Athens Air as SX-CBN (next upload) for a year from 9.94. Later reverted to G-AZLJ and ended up being parted out at Lydd. No doubt most eyes will fall on the ntu Air Columbus 757 G-IEAD behind...

Seen after a heavy shower loaded and ready to head south again, this was one of three Electras operated by Aerocondor at the time, but the only pure freighter. Originally a Northwest Orient aircraft (N122US) from 7.59, she went on to AFA in 6.66 then a number of holiday and corporate firms before finding her way to Colombia in 10.75 as HK-1809 with Aerocosta shortly after conversion to cargo config. Wfu Barranquilla soon after the date of this shot and later scrapped

Taken on charge by the RAF in 1.54 as WE191, this Canberra went back to BAe in 2.78 to be prepared for the Indian AF, but was never delivered. The fuselage is now preserved at the Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum, while the starboard wing was fitted to Canberra T.17 WH665 dumped at Filton in 1988 (was due to be sunk as a diving wreck). Others in this view from left are T.4 WT488 (b/u Dunsfold 99), TT.18 WJ721 (nose pres. Scotland) and probably TT.18 WE122 (to FRADU, nose in Suffolk) at right

First flying on 07th March 1957, this was the 12th production Vulcan and last flew 19.11.65 when it was delivered to No.2 SoTT, Cosford. Became 7896M; to Cosford Aerospace Museum but controversially scrapped 1986 - the last intact B.1. But - not the last time a significant airframe would perish there when better could be expected

First registered N367US to Northwest Orient in 7.66, this 707 was acquired by Bangladesh in 12.73 and sold to GAS Air as 5N-AYJ in 6.88. During a cargo flight from Dar es Salaam to Brussels on 13.12.88, made two attempted approaches at Cairo where a stop was scheduled; due to bad weather, diverted to Luxor but apparently ran out of fuel 45 kms short and crashed into a residential area
