G-AZLR was the former ZS-CDU of South African Airways and was one of seven SAA Viscounts, plus spares, acquired by BMA in 1971 for the bargain price of £98,000 for the Viscounts and £37,000 for the spares. The airline got good use out of these aircraft, although G-AZLR was retired from flying in 1982 and put into use as a cabin services trainer at East Midlands It was later transferred to the airport's Fire Service before finally scrapping in 1997. This was the first 747 freighter built. It was rolled out on 14 October 1971 and first flew on 30 November that year. It was delivered to Lufthansa on 9 March 1972 and entered service from Frankfurt to New York on 19 April 1972. Lufthansa sold the aircraft to Korean Airlines in 1978 as HL7441 and it went on to become the first 747 to reach 100,000 flying hours. It was retired on 31 May 2000 and flown to Marana, where it was scrapped in 2004. The first 747 freighters had a nose door only, which gave less flexibility than with the later side cargo door.

One of the last C-118s in US military service, this VIP machine is seen here at Stockholm in 1981. After some years in preservation (with civil registration N427D) and then external storage at MCAS Cherry Point, 128427 was broken up, though its fuselage is believed to exist largely intact at Marion-Zuehl airfield near San Antonio, Texas.
