A-7A 153228 had just been returned to VA-93 after having undergone maintenance at Atsugi which included stripping the aircraft and repainting it in the basic A-7 markings when this photo was taken. The squadron then will repaint all other markings and numbers, including the shark mouth on the intake. The "3228" on the vertical fin will also be painted over.

Slide taken during flight operations aboard USS Midway (CV-41). A-7A 153191 was accepted by the USN on 16 June 1967. It was lost in the Sea of Japan on 30 March 1977. A catapult malfunction resulted in not enough airspeed to get airborne. The pilot ejected as the aircraft reached the end of the flight deck. The ejection seat also malfunctioned and did not separate the pilot from the seat and unfortunately the pilot was lost.

I took this slide from another VA-303 A-7B while enroute back to NAS Alameda, CA. after the completion of a multi day war at sea exercise with the USS Constellation (CV-64). During the exercise the VA-303 A-7B aircraft simulated both high and low level cruise missiles. The carrier strike group was located about 250 miles out in the Pacific Ocean. The squadron operated out of NAS Whidbey Island, WA. for the event.

I took this slide from a VA-93 A-7A. This A-7A was assigned to VA-93 from 11 January 1976 to 10 December 1976. In 1980 it was converted into an A-7P and transferred to the Portuguese Air Force with s/n 5512. It was retired from service in 1988.

152665 is at the top of the photo. This was a flight of eight A-7As from VA-56 and VA-93 from the USS Midway (CV-41) participating in Exercise "Maulex" which was being conducted in South Korea. I took this slide from a VA-93 A-7A. On 13 January 1977 152665 slid off the flight deck of CV-41while being repositioned by a tug. Unfortunately the Plane Captain, who was in the cockpit riding the brakes, did not survive as the A-7 went into the water upside down.

This was the last practice airshow of the year at NAS Pensacola. In addition to the six demonstration aircraft, the number 7 aircraft launched with the team with a photographer in the rear seat (he has his camera up in the photo). Flown by the team narrator, this aircraft basically flew a loose formation with the demo aircraft through all of the airshow maneuvers. The wavy effect in the photo was caused by the hot exhaust from the two solo Super Hornets, which are directly in front of this aircraft awaiting take off.

In 1929 Pan American Airways acquired a controlling stake in Mexicana Airways. This included the route between Brownsville, Texas and Mexico City. This route was extended to the Yucatan Peninsula. Ciudad del Carmen was one of the enroute stops. Pan Am improved the airfield there and built a terminal with a control tower in the mid 1930s. When this photo was taken the terminal was still in use. Today the control tower still exists, but a much newer terminal has been constructed and the runway and other facilities vastly improved.
