This aircraft was built as C-47-DL 42-5635 for the RAF (allocated serial FD769), but the aircraft was not taken up and went to BOAC (which operated the aircraft in RAF colours). It went to the newly established Israeli air force in 1950 as 4X-FAG/1401. The Israeli borrowed the aircraft to Uganda probably from the early or mid sixties until 1973. It then returned to the Israeli air force as 4X-FMF/040. It is now preserved at Eilat airport (with fake registration 4X-AES).

This is a D-Day veteran that was also active over occupied Germany. It made a forced landing at Eindhoven in the already liberated part of the Netherlands in 1945 and, after the war had ended, remained in the Netherlands to be used by various airliners as PH-DAB. In 1965, the aircraft went to the Indonesian navy, until 1968. In that year it went back to civil aviation as PK-RDA.

This is a D-Day veteran (US serial 43-15094, glider towing mission on 7 June 1944 to Sainte-Mère-Église, Normandy) that entered service with the Finnish Air Force 1961. It later was converted to BT-67 (with turbo props) and became C-FMKB. In 2020, this aircraft was still being used to fly scientists back and forth across Antarctica.

This is former RAF Dakota KN656 (US serial 44-77021). It was operated by the FBS. After its military service in Germany, this aircraft became PH-MOA. It crashed as such on 3 June 1971 at Southend airport, England, while carrying 32 Ajax football supporters on their way back to Amsterdam. Luckily, they all survived the crash (and no, they did not cause the plane to crash).

The story on how the Zambia Air Force received the Dakotas and Pembrokes dates back to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and its break up in late 1963 when Nyasaland became Malawi, Northern Rhodesia became Zambia, and Southern Rhodesia became Rhodesia. The ZAF inherited four Dakotas and two Pembrokes from the Federal air force, the Royal Rhodesian Air Force. The Alouettes and Hunters remained south of the Zambezi in Rhodesia.

In 1982, the Indonesian Army had at least two C-47s on strength, A-9036 and A-9038. Unfortunately, little is known about these aircraft. This example is fitted with the AiResearch Maximizer kit, which indicates a previous civil career.

This USAAF D-Day participant (dropping paratroopers near Sainte-Mère-Église, Normandy in the night of 5/6 June 1944) ended up with the South Vietnamese Air Force after it served with the French Air Force and the USAF in the 1950s. Its fate remains unknown.
