Due to fuel shortage, these 3 Arados had to make emergency landings near Heerenveen on February 19, 1938. "6" and "10" were put down just south of the city, "3" was able to fly for another 18km before having to land. They belonged to the Jagdgeschwader 134 "Horst Wessel" (JG134), based out of Dortmund. They were ferried to Eelde after the investigations had been completed and they were finally able to depart to Germany on the 25th of February, having been delayed for 1 day due to fog.

Simple, yet very effective! Manufactured as OY-AZG in 1978 and it served as OY-AZG between 1978 and 1982. After that, it was re-registered SE-IKD, LX-LTX and PH-AXS. Exported to Kenya in December 2013.

Delivered to Laker on February 25, 1967. Leased to Air Congo between May 1967 and February 1968. It was bought by Nordic Finance in March 1982 and leased to British Caledonian Airways that same month as G-BKAU. In November 1983, it was leased to Okada Airlines as 5N-AOZ and eventually got stored in Benin (BNI) in 1997. Current status is broken up. Otherwise another great blast from the past, with also PH-PLO (C172), PH-KFH (F27) and G-BXBX (PA31) present on the apron.

Unfortunately I'm unable to find a date for this photo, but since we can still see a runway 06/24, it would've been taken before 1983. What I also find interesting is the concrete squares next to the runways. I've been told that observers used to be there to call out if landings gears were down. Whether this is an urban legend or not, I don't know.

Ex-USAF 44-77083, ex- RAF KN699. After serving for the Dutch Air Force, the aircraft went back to the USAF as 44-77083 before becoming FAC-965 for the Colombian Air Force. In 1981, it became FAP-2030 for the Paraguayan Air Force. Written off on November 24, 1994 near Puerto la Victoria. In 2010 it was reported stored/derelict in Guazu. Judging by the bystanders, some sort of official visit just took place.

Another round of cleaning out the basement, another round of gems to be found! Although info on this photo is very limited, my guess is that this is a pre-delivery test flight. Delivered to US Air on 21/10/1989 and later became D-AGPD for Germania, Fly-DBA, Air Berlin and again Germania. Currently flying for Alliance Airlines as VH-XWP.

PH-ECF is ex. D-IAMK, N72SE, N956WT, N193K, N19CK. Currently still flying around as N817BA. The other aircraft in the frame are PH-BOA (exported to the US in 2008), PH-ACZ, PH-DBH (of the sadly defunct airline Dutchbird) and un unidentified Rockwell Commander.

My assumption is that this was a pre-delivery test flight above the country. The aircraft was delivered to Swissair on 29th February 1988 and went on to fly for Alpi Eagles and Air Dolomiti as I-ALPK. The Alpi Eagles fleet was grounded in January 2008. The aircraft currently seems to be stored.

A look into the thriving aviation scene at Eelde in the 80's. Various general aviation aircraft, an RLS Citation (the RLS later became the KLM Flight Academy), an Air Holland Boeing 757 rolling onto the apron and the Fokker 50 prototype(?) climbing out from runway 05. Photo taken by Aerophoto Eelde and found while clearing out the basement.

This photo was taken between August 18, 1976 and October 13, 1976, because after that this registration was cancelled and the aircraft lived on as T-2701 and A-2701 with the Indonesian Air Force.

This aircraft was a regular visitor in the early 1980's and is seen here getting refueled. What is also of interest is the new tower being built next to the old one. Such a difference and the new tower still looks exactly like that today.

This V-8AP, an early Mi-8 prototype, was presumably taken in June 1965 when it was on its way to the air show at Le Bourget, just like many other aircraft did back in the day. Its c/n is thought to be 0203. The registration CCCP-06181 was later falsely painted on c/n 3135 (preserved at the Technik Museum Speyer) and on c/n 0604 (preserved at Monino). It was also re-used by a Mi-26.

This airframe was delivered in 1954 as an L-1049C, before it had undergone some modifications in 1956, which made it an L-1049E. The registration was cancelled in 1965 and the aircraft was scrapped for the parts to be sold.

This picture was taken after the Piper had crashlanded just 450m short of runway 23. It suffered a #2 engine failure (fuel starvation) about 15 mins before the aircraft would be landing. The pilot forgot to adjust the blades and so the propellor kept windmilling. He was desperately trying to keep his course using all means he had, but when the #1 engine also gave in, the situation couldn't be controlled anymore and the aircraft went down. Luckily, all 5 occupants survived without any injuries worth mentioning.

The airframe was built in 1976 and the registration PH-BAA was cancelled in August 1980 and the aircraft became N805PC, C-GBHM and eventually N4231V. The middle aircraft, PH-BAS carries c/n 31-7305043. This one also got cancelled in August 1980 and became N804PC and N84859, but was unfortunately written off on December 15, 2000. The third aircraft is the PH-SAV and has c/n 31-7652056. The registration got cancelled in 2006 and it became G-CEBK. Both the -BAA and -SAV are still in service to date!
