Among many of the ex- Air Canada Viscounts, it would be bought up by Broker United Aircraft Services and Beaver Enterprises. One of a few that flew again, it was sold to Zaire Aero Service, got a new registration 9Q-CPJ and a wing spar change in 1978. Delivered to SAS for Scandinavian Commuter as OY-KCA "Huge Viking" in January 2000, this Dash 8 was re-registered LN-RDP by March 2000. The airline had two Dash 8 accidents September 7 and 12, 2007 where a main landing gear collapsed on landing. They grounded the fleet until the aircraft were inspected. After suffering another landing gear incident (with an unrelated cause) on October 27, SAS withdrew the type from service. This aircraft was stored in Denmark until sold and flown to Sault Ste. Marie, ON in December 2012. The aircraft was scrapped.

Canadian airline pioneer Max Ward passed away on November 2, 2020 at the age of 98. I wish I had something better as a "flown west" tribute, but this photo of Wardair's first 707 on a grey day in Toronto was all I had ready. With the airline's operation center across the street in the background, Wardair was Canada's premier charter airline.

In the early 70s, International carriers were replacing 707s with wide bodies like the 747. Second tier carriers became homes for many, BWIA eventually operating thirteen of them. Scarlet Ibis was in their fleet March 1974 - February 1982. Leases as N29796 and N144SP followed until April 13, 1987 when the Burlington Air Express freighter crashed short of the runway at Kansas City International Airport, MO.
