The D.338 prototype, first flown on 9 August 1935. Following modifications, it was bought by Air France, making its first revenue flight from Paris - Le Bourget, where this photo was most probably taken, to Lyon and Marseille on 13 July 1936. F-AOZA was involved in an accident at Martimprey du Kiss (now Ahfir), Morocco, on 30 June 1942, but apparently repaired and destroyed by the RAF at Toulouse in the night of 4 April 1944.

Only 111 examples plus prototypes were built of the Ka-18 helicopter. This is the fifth series aircraft which, between 1959 and 1961, was registered as CCCP-64570 with Aeroflot's Moscow AG SPiVS (Aviation Group for Special Purposes and Aerial Photography), which presumably accounts for the very nice quality of this photo. To CCCP-06136 and -64570 but airframe already struck off charge in July 1963 as worn out.

The RAF received B-29s, Sabres and Neptunes in the early 1950s as the British industry failed to deliver competent aircraft in time. The P2V-5s had US Air Force rather than US Navy serials, 51-15914 in the case of WX493. Photo believed taken before delivery to No 217 Sqn in January 1952. The seaside location seems to be the unit's new base, Kinloss.

Operated by CLASSA, this Tri-Motor carried out the first air service from Spain to the Canary Islands on 20 May 1930, flying from Madrid to Los Rodeos on Tenerife via Casablanca. The aircraft was imported through Ford's European agent in the UK. On the left is almost certainly G-ABEF (c/n 4-AT-61). The location may well be Hooton, on the Mersey, where G-ABEF was assembled, although this was supposedly later in 1930. M-CCKA to EC-KKA in 1931. To G-ACAK, then to VH-USX for use in New Guinea, see other photo, and destroyed there by Japanese attack in January 1942.

The He 116 was designed as a long-range mailplane. This is the first prototype, first flown on 9 December 1936. Here it wears a Lufthansa paint scheme, but no titles. In January 1938 it was renamed Lübeck by DLH. 17 He 116s appear to have been built, including two for Japan and twelve He 116A (not He 116B) reconnaissance aircraft for the Luftwaffe, which were used for cartographic flights over friendly territory.

Date probable. Vertol 42Bs F-BFDB and F-BFAX were VIP helicopters 'refused by Washington' and sold to France. At the 1957 Salon they provided an air link between Issy heliport and Le Bourget, operated by Helicop-Air. They then went to the French army as regular H-21Cs and both served in Algeria by 1958. The two Vertol 42Bs F-BFDB and F-BFAX (c/n 330/FR32) were VIP helicopters 'refused by Washington' according to a French source. At the 1957 Salon they provided an air link between Issy heliport and Le Bourget, operated by the Helicop-Air company. They were then transferred to the French army as regular H-21Cs and both served in Algeria by 1958.
