While the FK.31's service career in Finland was undistinguished, this machine made it to Latvia and Poland on an official visit by air force commander Väinö Vuori, the short man in flying garb. 3H-33, later KO-33, has a machine gun mounting in the rear cockpit here even though the Finns really only used the FK.31 as a trainer. NVI c/n 214 is painted on the nose and tail.

Frits Koolhoven's FK 31 reconnaissance fighter was a fiasco in Finland. Eight Dutch-built machines were found to be of poor quality. The four examples built locally by VL were reportedly even worse, and not accepted by the Finnish air force. Funnily enough, 'Kolho Vene' as the type was nicknamed in Finland means something like 'clumsy boat'. Information that KO-37 was lost in a crash is incorrect according to a Finnish source. The SBD-3 Dauntless had been ordered by the French navy before the fall of France in 1940. From late 1943, 32 SBD-5s were delivered to the Aéronavale and some 50 similar A-24B Banshees to the French air force. The A-24s were mostly used as trainers in Morocco, but some did see action during the liberation of France. 254700 is ex 42-54700.

Small powerful racer designed by Frank Barnwell and built to promote Bristol's Jupiter engine. The sole example is seen here fitted with its initial 510-hp Jupiter VI with cylinder head helmet fairings. It dropped out of the 1926 King's Cup race with fuel feed problems. Rebuilt for the next edition of that event as the Bristol 99A, it crashed on 26 July 1927 when its new turbocharged Jupiter VI failed just after take-off from Filton. The pilot, Capt Frank Barnard, lost his life.

Experimental tiltwing aircraft converted from a Chase YC-122C, 49-2883. Strangely named Propelloplane by Hiller. Two Allison T40 turboprops from the XFV and XFY Pogo programmes but the X-18 also needed a J34 turbojet in the fuselage for jet reaction pitch control. First flown at Moffett Field on 24 November 1959, then moved to Edwards were photo is assumed to have been taken. A malfunction caused the aircraft to enter a spin on 20th flight in July 1962 but test pilot George Bright managed to land. Not flown again but damaged when its ground test platform collapsed and subsequently scrapped.

14 Pinto aircraft were delivered to training squadron BTG-1 at Naval Auxiliary Air Station Saufley Field, Florida from July 1958, to test the feasibility of an all-jet training syllabus. Performance was poor and the little jets were phased out in 1960. This airframe presumably survives as the Ezell EJ-1, N4229.
