AF-104 of Fighter Squadron (VF) 201 Hunters on its way to the runway of NAS Dallas (TX). On this September 1987 day, the squadron performed some Dissimilar air combat training (DACT) with Tyndall F-15s that were deployed to Dallas. The pilot of one of the Tomcat said the memorable words to me before he entered his office: "Today we're gonna eat some Eagles" in a Texas slang. This BuNo 162708 crashed on 23 December 1993 during an Air Combat Manoeuvring engagement with an A-4 Skyhawk, some 30 miles SW of Dallas.

Marine Attack Squadron (All Weather) 533 'Hawks' operated the A-6 Intruder since 1965. Soon after the transition to the Intruder the squadron was deployed to Vietnam to support combat operations. In 1975 they returned to Continental US where they were based at MCAS Cherry Point (NC). In 1976, the A-6A was replaced by the more modern A-6E. With that aircraft the Hawks deployed for another combat tour, this time to the Gulf War in 1990. In 1992 the A-6E was replaced by the F/A-18D.

Antisubmarine Squadron (VS) 33 "World Famous Screwbirds" replaced their S-2 Trackers by the S-3A Viking, like all VS-squadrons within the US Navy. These transitions marked the end of the propeller era and greatly improved the Carrier Battle Groups' Anti-submarine warfare capabilities. VS-33 took delivery of the first S-3As in 1975. In 1993 the designation of the squadron changed into Sea Control Squadron (VS) 33, the abbrivation remained the same. Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 commanded the squadron in 1987 - when this picture was made - when the wing was assigned to the USS Nimitz (CVN-68).

This F-16C was assigned to the 58th TTW, 312th TFTS and marked as the Commander's aircraft of the 832nd Air Division at Luke AFB (AZ). Prior to the 1992 USAF reorganization, two or more wings were under the control of an so-called Air Division. Luke has the 58th TTW for F-16 training, as well as the 405th TTW for F-15 training and the 832 AD gained both units. After the USAF reorganization in 1992, the ADs were disestablished, and a Brigadier General of the AD became the Wing Commander of the unit that they were based at.
