In 1951, Okanagan Helicopters of British Columbia started offering mountain flying training to helicopter pilots from its base at Vancouver Airport. In the mid-1950s the school moved to Penticton in the Okanagan Valley (which had better weather) when it won significant pilot training contracts from the RCAF, US Army and French military, followed by many other nations. This is the entrance to the school's $5 million, state-of-the-art building 20,000 sq ft facility which opened in 2012 which it was also rebranded "HNZ Topflight" by owner Canadian Helicopters. The HNZ name was later dropped.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey MBB Bo 105, N9380A, takes off from the Battery Park heliport at the southwest tip of Manhattan. The Port Authority acquired its first helicopter in 1950 (Bell 47D) and grounded its last helicopters (S-76C) in 2010. During the reconstruction of the Wall Street/Downtown Manhattan Heliport between 1983 and 1987, some operations were shifted to the Battery Park Heliport to the west, which was constructed by the Port Authority on a landfill that later became home for the Battery Park City neighbourhood.

The Lake St. John Aerodrome was established more than 60 years ago by RCAF veterans as a combined airport and seaplane base 12.0 km; (7.5 mi) northeast of Orillia, Ontario. It's still one of the few combined land & seaplane facilities in southern Ontario.Current owner Clayton Smith has investing $2 million in airport improvements and built several new hangars. The photo shows the Orillia Aviation offices and maintenance hangar in December 2015 prior to a major renovation that added a restaurant. It's now known as the Orillia Rama Regional Airport (CNJ4/CNV6). https://flyorillia.ca/the-airport/

This early serial number Aerospatiale SA-360C Dauphin (msn 1004) was operating scheduled passenger flights from Manhattan's East 34th Street Heliport in April 1984, probably to JFK. It was probably the first Dauphin imported to the USA by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corp. in Texas since it was already N47284 when displayed at the 1976 Reading Airshow. New York Helicopter, Island Helicopter, and National Helicopter were sister companies. They were all evicted from E34th St. heliport in August 1997 after owing unpaid rent on the heliport they had also managed. Rotorspot says this 360C is preserved.

New York City's East 60th Street heliport opened on Nov. 4, 1968 and ordered closed by Mayor Rudy Giuliani at the end of February 1998. In 1982, Pan Am contracted Omniflight Helicopter Services to operate a free helicopter service for all of its first-class and Clipper-Class passengers between the East 30th Street Heliport and the airline's Worldport Terminal at JFK Airport utilizing Bell 222As and later the Westland WG30. This 222A was seen taking off for JFK in April 1984. It later flew with operators in New Zealand (ZK-HFQ), Turkey (TC-HMH) and South Africa (ZS-HMS) before it was retired.

This Dash 8-300 was delivered new to Air Ontario in April 1991. After the merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines, in 2001, AC consolidated its regional airlines and Halifax-based Jazz was born. Later, when AC ran into financial troubles it sold Jazz to investors. In March 2021, AC and Jazz revised their capacity purchase agreement as a result of Covid-19. Major changes included Jazz taking over 25 E175s from Skyregional, continuing to fly 39 78-seat Dash 8-400s and retiring all 19 of its DHC-8-300s, including C-FMDW. Most of the retired Jazz Dash 8-100/300s are now stored in North Bay, ON.

This Sikorsky S-58T was flying scheduled passenger services between Manhattan's East 34th Street heliport (6N5) and JFK Airport in April 1984. After serving with the German Army and Navy since 1963, it was purchased by Sikorsky in 1973 for conversion to a S-58ET with a twin-turbine P&WC PT6T Twin Pac replacing the Wright R-1820 Cyclone. It flew with Air Greenland as OY-HBG, "Taliffak", between 1975 and 1982 until sold to the US. New York Helicopters (and its two sister companies) flew it 1982-1998. It was sold to St Louis Helicopters in Nov 1998 (for spare parts?) and canceled in July 1999.

A four fold increase in the production of cherries in Washington State between 1999 and 2017 (26.5 million 20-pound boxes) is behind a major increase in the number of helicopters under contract to area growers to fan rainwater off maturing fruit to prevent splitting between May and August. This includes a remarkable fleet of about 15 Sikorsky S-55s operated by Golden Wings Aviation's Dave Smith (in 2016) and nine S-58s operated by VI 1 LLC based at Anderson Field in Brewster, WA and the nearby Monse heliport. This S-55 (ex 54-1422) and 14 others were re-registered to Sierra Aeronautics LLC of KY in 2021.

This hangar was constructed by Canadian Pacific Air Lines in the late 1950s to maintain its fleet of Bristol Britannia airliners. It was later used by Pacific Western Airlines, AirBC and the aviation campus of the British Columbia Institute of Technology, which was the tenant when this photo was taken in August 2008. The wartime Boeing Aircraft of Canada PBY Catalina factory was once located to the south (left) of this hangar until demolished in the mid-1970s. Boeing's wartime PBY flight test hangar located to the east is still used by companies like Pacific Coastal and Aeroflite/Harbour Air.

This DHC-3 Otter was delivered in May 1960 to the US Army and flew in the US and Vietnam as 59-2224 until damaged in May 1969. Shipped back to the US, it was rebuilt by Harold J. Hansen in Seattle (BFI) in the early 1970s. After flying in Alaska, Canada and Alaska again, it rebuilt as a Vazar DHC-3T Turbo Otter and sold to Whistler Air in 1999. Mike Quinn founded the airline in 1985 and established a floating base on Green Lake in the resort town of Whistler in 1994. In Dec. 2002-Jan 2003 it flew tourists to the South Pole in Antarctica. During the summer, the Generalitat de Catalunya contracts helicopters and single engine air tankers to fight wildfires throughout the region. Some of these are based at airports and others at heliports located at fire stations in rural areas. The Parc de Bombers de Manresa Heliport (located near the junction of highway C-55 and C-16C) was the base for two TAF AS350s in the summer of 2012.
