Some 50 HH-46A SAR helicopters were upgraded to HH-46D. The upgrades included an external rescue hoist near the front crew door on right hand side and a Doppler radar located behind the nose landing gear, which provided for automatic, day/night, over-water hovering capability. Additionally a "Loud Hailer" was installed opposite the crew entrance door for communicating with downed aviators on the ground or in the water. This Delta belonged to Helicopter Combat Support (HC) 8 'Dragon Whales', a squadron that was redesignated into HSC-28 on 13 May 2005 when it started operating the MH-60S.

It was sold to AFL/Krasnoyar as CCCP-11906 in Feb' 83, served later Aeroflot as RA-11906 from May'93 and was then transferred for an overhaul to Norilsk Avn Enterprises in 1995. It was damaged on a heavy landing at Syktyvkar on 5 Nov'97, but was repaired. Continued with Aeroflot and was leased to this Avial NV from Aug'04. It was last noted as stored at Princess Olga Pskov Int'l Airport in mid-2012. The aircraft was scrapped by Jul'14.
