This camouflaged C-39 (we called it warpaint then) was taken in September 1941. This was close to the end of the red center national insignia use. The aircraft was from the Sacramento Air Depot and was plane number 20 of the 62nd Transport Group which had been activated in December 1940. The serial of the aircraft is not known. For that you would need to walk up close and inspect the data block below the cockpit. A C-39 has a DC-2 fuselage and wings, and a DC-3 tail unit, centre-section and landing gear. Thirty-five C-39s were built.

Catron & Fisk already did passenger flights between Bakersfield and Los Angeles with a smaller, trimotor triplane in 1922. The CF-10 first flew on 20 May 1925 according to The Ace magazine which published a photo in June. In that shot the aircraft has protruding ailerons on the lower wings that are no longer present here. Another photo, taken at Burdett Airport, LA, shows a CF-10 marked 'CF-43' in a circle on the fuselage and this may well be the same aircraft. When WWII broke out, only 16 Fokker T.V's had been delivered. 9 were enlisted with the bomber wing (850, 853, 854, 855, 856, 858, 859, 862 en 865), 1 was almost complete (852), 1 without engines (857), 1 waiting for armament (863), 1 as spare parts bird (851) and 1 near the KLM building (860).
