Fire bomber photographed undergoing maintenance, the registration can just be discerned under the wing, it was re-registered N324FA to Airborne Fire Attack Inc. the following month, and it was planned that it would replace PBY-5A N322FA which had come to grief whilst scooping water at San Vincente Reservoir in August of that year. However for whatever reason this never happened and it passed to the Commemorative Air Force, (CAF), and after the discovery of severe airframe corrosion it is now exhibited statically at the CAF Lake Superior Squadron, at Richard I. Bong Airport, Superior, WI.

This PBY-6A was built for the US Navy 46645 in 1945 before being sold and reregistered N10013 in 1956. It then went to Canada as CF-IZO and reregistered C-FIZO in 1983. In 1990 it was sold to the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum where it was restored to flying condition with the tail fin of the PBY-5A. It was flown along the coast to the Norwegian Aviation Museum in Bodø where it is currently displayed. On the way, the aircraft made low passes over the homes of former Catalina crew members. The real FP535 was Catalina Mk III that was lost on a search and rescue flight north of Iceland 5 November 1942.

Delivered to the US Navy as serial 64071. While operated by the Cousteau Society, this aircraft was destroyed in the River Tagus, Portugal, on 28 Jun 1979 when it nosed down and flipped inverted during a high speed water taxi, causing the wing to separate and the fuselage to break in two.

Delivered to Eindhoven in 1989 for museum use, but the aircraft was not taken up in the collection. On 26 July 1990 it was transferred to the Norwegian air force museum. The white markings on the nose are the partially scrubbed off titles of its previous operator Avalon Aviation.

The first Catalina in Norwegian service was a PBY-5B with the 1477(N) Flight, later the 333 (Norwegian) Sqn. They were used for U-boat patrols and flights to the Norwegian coast, transporting personnel and equipment. After WW2, the Air Force kept operating the type for transport, rescue, herring searches and mine hunt operations. In the autumn of 1953 the 333 Skv received 6 new PBY-5A aircraft. These served until 1961, completing almost 20 years of Catalina service in the Air Force.

Now in a Helsingør museum

Recently retired by the Royal Danish Air Force (L-868 with its military markings still visible on the tail) and sold in North America. Overnight refueling stop at Prestwick on its trans- Atlantic ferry flight. This aircraft sadly crashed August 1975 when an engine cut out during a test flight at Harlingen (HRL / KHRL). 3 fatalities reported.

Immaculately restored. Possibly still airworthy in 2019.
