Ex BuNo 04983 and NC74693, PK-CPA was the first of five PBY-5As refurbished with 18 seats in Georgia. It was ferried from Schiphol to Kemayoran in early November 1949. The Dutch acknowledged Indonesian independence on 23 December and the KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf was taken over by Garuda. PK-CPA was named Amboina in Garuda service. "Adriaan van Ostade" arrives from Dublin on the through schedule to Schiphol. Visible is the 1938-built Chance Brothers octagonal floodlight, one of three in use until early wartime. The three sides facing the grass landing area were clear glazed. Two of the floodlights would be illuminated for night landings. They were dismantled in the early 1950s.

Served KLM between 1947 and 1958, becoming PH-DAU in 1954. 'The Flying Dutchman' was usually rendered in Dutch on the starboard side but, as you can see, not always. The Dakota is taking off from Schiphol - detail of same original as photo 433926 which shows the airport below. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Named for the Dutch city of Venlo, like KLM's first Constellation, PH-TAV. PH-TFF arrived in 1949. On 23 March 1952 this aircraft burnt at Bangkok - Don Muang after the number 3 engine caught fire and a propeller blade slashed into the fuselage in flight. There were no casualties thanks to a brave Thai ground mechanic who rescued a baby boy left on board. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

This old lady started her life in the USAF as 42-92298, became FZ549 in the RAF and then moved on to civilian duties. Those duties started with a transfer to KLM in 1947 and in 1949 it got registered as PH-TDV, was reregistered PH-UEV for a brief while before becoming PH-DAV (also with KLM). After that, she went to Itavia as I-TAVE and she ended her life with Pluna as CX-BDA. She never flew for Pluna, but was used for spare parts and is subsequently scrapped now.
