The Moth used by Maude "Lores" Bonney for several epic flights including the first woman to fly solo from Australia to the UK, which she did in 1933. After Bonney replaced the aircraft with a Klemm, the Moth passed through a couple of owners until impressed by the RAAF in 1940 as A7-81. It was sold to an aero club after World War II, presumably as spare parts because it did not return to the register. Photo from: State Library of Queensland

Delivered in January 1937, VH-UYZ was cancelled from the register when its certificate of airworthiness was not renewed in 1940. The Aeronca 100 was built in Britain, a licensed version of the Aeronca C.3. Three of the first five Aeronca 100s came to Australia but that was it and no more followed. All three were gone by 1949. VH-UFF was originally delivered to the RAAF as A33-1 but was in service only a few months when Holyman's Airways asked to buy it to replace a crashed DH86. Holyman's had it for a year then it became ANA. In June 1938 -UFF was transferred to Airlines of Australia and was still with AOA when it was impressed by the RAAF as A33-3. During the war it was operated by Guinea Airways (as VH-UFF again). In 1956 it was sold in New Caledonia as F-OAVG. Photo from: State Library of Queensland

Rebuilt after a 1959 accident as a specialised aerial grass seeder with a hopper in the rear and a metal-clad fuselage. In 1965 it was further modified with a 190hp Lycoming engine. Withdrawn from use in 1975, it returned to register as in 1986 only to crash on May 16, 1987 at Luskintyre, NSW. The hopper had been removed and seats fitted and the fuselage was once again fabric covered. However, it retained the Lycoming engine. Kevin Kerle photo.

Publicity at the time VH-UXA was delivered in January 1937, it to be used to deliver the latest shoes to customers around Australia. By 1939 it had undertaken several "expeditions" of central Australia and made flights throughout South East Asia and to Hong Kong. The places visited were recorded on the fuselage side. At the end of February 1939, it was flown to the UK where it became G-AFTF.

Ex VH-NOM. Notable as the aircraft that provided support for Vimy replica N71MY during its UK-Australia flight in 1994. When A18-408 landed back at its base at Oakey, Queensland, it was the last service flight by an Australian Army/RAAF Nomad. Only ferry and test flights carried out. -408 had been in Army service less than a year when it was withdrawn. At the time of the photo it was being used as a training aid at Archerfield.
