This is a "Super Six" Harvard. It has, among other modifications, shorter wings and a more powerful geared engine with a large Hamilton three-bladed prop. This particular aircraft was delivered to the RCAF in Apr 1941, serial 3771. Struck off charge Dec 1960 and sold as CF-TSV in Mar 1970. Converted to airtanker and operated by Forest Protection Ltd. as Tanker #1 from 1978. Sold in the USA as N90541 in Mar 1987 and restored as a warbird. Acquired by Steffen Busch in July 2007, who took the Harvard with him when he moved from Canada to Germany in Sep 2010.
There is some confusion about the identity of this aircraft, with some sources quoting it as c/n 88-15778. But that seems impossible because that airframe was still in existence as F-BJBH at the CFA Métiers de l'Aérien at Toussus-le-Noble in France by 2011, while D-FAML made its first post-restoration flight in Dec 2006. The other quoted identity, c/n 88-17026, seems much more likely. This is ex USAAF 42-85245 and US Navy 43854, sold as N6600C in 1963. To Hubert Mohr in Apr 1979 and flown in the USA as N77LT in German markings, coded 77-LT. In 1994 it was photographed at Baden-Baden in Germany as N77LT and it reportedly suffered an accident later. It was stored in Germany until sold to its current owners and restored in 2006.
This DC-3 is based at Flabob Airport in Riverside, CA, hence the titles. It is officially registered as c/n 33569, but this is not correct. It is one of seven C-47s for which Lee Mansdorf falsified the documents and data plates with fake identities in 1953. Because of this, all registrations carried by this airframe since then (N2701A, N42F, CF-IKD and now N103NA) are often incorrectly quoted as c/n 33569. The aircraft is in fact c/n 9531, formerly Royal Air Force FD879 and USAAF 42-23669.
Originally delivered to the USAAF as AT-6D 42-44736 (c/n 88-15220). Redesignated to T-6D in Jun 1948 and rebuilt as a T-6G Texan with new serial 52-8231 in 1952. Transferred to the French Air Force, serialled 28231. Wfu in Jul 1965 and stored. Recovered from a dump at Etampes in 1978 and stored at La Ferté-Alais. Sold to Switzerland in the late 1990s and restored to flying condition. Registered as HB-RCN on 10 Apr 2000.
Delivered to the RCAF in Jul 1941 as AJ586. Struck off charge in Oct 1960 and sold to Robert Horn in 1966 as N4657T. He kept it in storage in Michigan until sold to Barry Smith in Jan 2003. Finally restored to flying condition and flown in authentic RCAF markings as AJ586/89, registered N586AJ. Sold to Germany in Jul 2007 as D-FITE. At that time the authentic RCAF markings on this wonderful aircraft were unfortunately replaced by these fake USAAF markings and equally fake serial. In 2017 it was sold to Switzerland and based at Grenchen, and on 5 April 2018 it was re-registered to HB-RTA.
This is a very early DC-3, built in 1939 and thus 80 years old when this photo was taken! It was once the world's only C-41A, flying with the USAAF with serial 40-70. It was withdrawn from use in late 1945 and placed in storage, before being rebuilt as a regular DC-3 by Standard Airlines in December 1951, using parts from various airframes. This was the start of its long civil career.
