Qantas installed extra fuel tanks so the aircraft, owned by Dr Richard Archbold, could be used to survey an Indian Ocean air route for the Australian government. In June it island hopped from Port Hedland to Mombasa in Kenya. Guba returned to the US where it was sold to the British Puchasing Commission for use by BOAC. Sunk at its moorings at Pwellheli, Wales, in 1945. The hangar in the photo was for Qantas and completed in October 1939. Demolished after flying boat operations ended at Rose Bay in the 1970s.

This 1963 Beaver was delivered new as a cropduster to Super Spread, being registered VH-IDI on 5 February 1964. On 15 November 1996 the aircraft was officially destroyed in a fatal accident near Point Lookout, NSW. The wreck was subsequently rebuilt as a seaplane and registered VH-NOO on 17 February 2000. A year less a day after this photo was taken, on 31 December 2017, VH-NOO crashed into the Hawkesbury River. The pilot and five passengers were all killed.

Coasting to a stop at the Sydney Seaplanes terminal, Rose Bay. This Beaver was built in 1961 and delivered to the Ghana Air Force, registered G-213. It seems to have made its way to the USA around 1974, being civil registered as N37772. In 1976 it came to Australia, being re-registered as VH-IMR on 17 September that year. It was later re-registered again as VH-AAM(3) on 13 April 1992 and named 'Caledonia' after one of the old Empire flying boats that used to operate out of Rose Bay.

New colours. Taken the day before Australia Day when the sun shone brilliantly - what a day indeed. On 31 December 2017, VH-NOO crashed into the Hawkesbury River. The pilot and five passengers were all killed.
