Another -200 Series 737 ending up in Papua hauling cargo after a previous long life flying with different airlines around the world. For a few years starting around 2008, Wamena airport became the "Eldorado" for BAE-146 cargo airplanes. That was after the Trigana and Merpati F-27's were phased out and before the Boeing 737's were allowed to land in this remote airport. PK-VTA is a 1984 built airframe and flew in Indonesia as from September 4, 2009. It had previously been registered in the UK as G-5-01, G-DEBN and G-MABR, in the US as N461AP, N568BA and N146AP, in Mexico as XA-RST and in Spain as EC-971 and EC-GEP. Left the Manunggal fleet in early 2014 to become RP-C8538 with Sky Jet Airlines in the Philippines.

In high demand of transport capacity, Indonesia took over nine of the twelve ex-RAAF surplus C-130H's (of which the first four were donated). They carry TNI-AU serials A-1330 through A-1338, and while most TNI-AU Herk's have a camouflage livery, A-1330 through A-1335 actually got this overall grey paint scheme during refurbishment in Australia (prior delivery to Indonesia). All have now been repainted to the camo style so I was lucky to catch this one while it was still grey. It is assigned to the 3rd (new) C-130 Skadron Udara 33 at Makassar, along with A-1315, A-1323, A-1330 and A-1338.

Jayawijaya Dirgantara's newest fleet, operating cargo flights between Jayapura and Wamena transporting logistics and other goods to the Jayawijaya Regency. This Boeing 737-300 Freighter was delivered to the airline on June 30th, 2020. "Monick" is the first 737-300 ever operated by Jayawijaya Dirgantara. The registration, PK-JRB was formerly used by a Boeing 737-200 (msn 20255) which was also operated by the same airline. It was scrapped at Wamena after an incident in 2015.

After B737 cargo planes were allowed to serve Wamena airport as from 2010, the Indonesian DGCA also cleared passenger 737's to land there in early 2014. Around 2018 however, the risk of 737 pax flights was re-evaluated and deemed to be too high, and consequently stopped, even though no incident happened with a pax 737. Reason's given were the relatively short runway length combined with Wamena's altitude of 5500 ft. In turn, the ATR-72 became the standard pax airplane again serving WMX. Note the kids on the other side of the runway, well within the airport premises....

After B737 cargo planes were allowed to serve Wamena airport as from 2010, the Indonesian DGCA also cleared passenger 737's to land there in early 2014. Around 2018 however, the risk of 737 pax flights was re-evaluated and deemed to be too high, and consequently stopped, even though no incident happened with a pax 737. Reason's given were the relatively short runway length combined with Wamena's altitude of 5500 ft. In turn, the ATR-72 became the standard pax airplane again serving WMX. Note the kids on the other side of the runway, well within the airport premises....

Built in 1979, it went to Wien Air as N493WC in October that year. It moved on to Alaska Airlines as N744AS in November 1984. Sold to Tri-M.G. Intra Asia Airlines in February 2005 as PK-YGF, then briefly to Neptune Air as 9M-NEA (Malaysia) in 2009. It went back to Tri-M.G. as PK-YGP before being sold to Dirgantara Air Services in January 2015. The majority of the 214 C-160 Transall's built went to the armed forces of Germany, France, Turkey and South Africa. Only about 12 Transall's were civilian registered over the years, of which 9 were delivered to Pelita Air Service in Indonesia between 1981 and 1985. Four of those ended up with Manunggal Air, PK-VTR being one of them (ex PK-PTO). It still wears the basic Pelita livery in this 2008 picture. Manunggal Air went out of business in 2015.
