A radio reporter could broadcast from inside the aircraft and there was a camera installed in the fairing on the left wing (visible by the man wearing a trilby hat). The Orion was commandeered in 1942 by the Defense Supplies Corp as UC-85 serial 42-62601. Released in 1944 and restored as NC799W, it was scrapped after an accident in November 1947 at Los Angeles. Intended for the Biafran Air Force it remained stored at Faro, Portugal, until flown to the USA in 1978 and noted active with large Air Cargo American titles at Miami and San Juan, PR., in 1980. After storage at Homestead it was acquired by the El Salvador Air Force, (FA Salvadorena), and converted to turboprop power, becoming Basler BT-67 c/n 4 serial 118. It was withdrawn from use at San Salvador Ilopango Airport in 2010, and last reported derelict there in February 2019.
