Auster J.1 Autocrat VH-AUO made its first public post-restoration appearance at the Houdini-Centenary Air Show at Melton. Initially registered G-AJIM, the aircraft went to Denmark in 1948 as OY-AAK. It returned to the UK in 1961, but was exported to Australia in 1971 and registered VH-AUO. Trailered to Melbourne from Perth over a week, its recent restoration in the hands of father and son team Frank and Scott Snibson took two years. The aircraft retains its 100 hp Cirrus Minor.

This Moth Minor is actually a pre-war civil import. It was allocated the UK rego G-AFNN to the Hull Aero Club in 1939 but appears to have been deregistered the same day. It was registered VH-ACR on 17 Jan '40 until impressed as the last of the RAAF's Moth Minors A21-42 in Nov '41. Returned after the war to VH-ACR '45 until withdrawn in '47. Restored at Caboolture '03-'08. Seen here arriving at the Houdini-Centenary Air Show: note the prominent under-belly speedbrake in lieu of flap.

This 1960 Aero Commander has had an interesting life. Originally registered in South Africa as ZS-CPG, it then transferred to the Kenyan Register as VP-KPY (later 5Y-KPY when Kenya changed from the British colonial series). In 1975 it came to Australia, being registered on 24 October that year. It's currently based at Melton and did a number of pleasure flights during the Houdini-Centenary Air Show - seen here backtracking after one of them.

This aircraft provides a good example of 'dealer's marks'. The registration VH-FNG is allocated to manufacturer Gippsland Aeronautics as a dealer's mark to be used on any of their aircraft for the purposes of test, delivery or demonstration flights. The rego is used as the aircraft's radio callsign, but it is not permitted to be displayed on the aircraft - hence in this case the aircraft is only identified by its cn. It is seen here getting airborne for a demonstration at the Houdini-Centenary Air Show.
