The S-55 was aptly nicknamed 'Happy Elephant' by the French. Although Sud-Est held a licence, I don't think any S-55s were built there; this H-19D-3 certainly has a Sikorsky c/n plate. It was delivered to the French navy in 1957, went to the air force in 1959, and on to the army in 1964. It was retired with 700 flight hours in 1970 and preserved initially at Metz.

The Tri-Pacer saw French military service, even in Africa. This aircraft is however a civil example, a very early PA-22-125, c/n 22-25, formerly N621A and F-BFYP. Painted on the tailfin is '22-5621', but that c/n belongs to N8130D.

First flown in 1984 as F-WZJV, this was the prototype of the SA.365M Panther tactical army helicopter. It sold to Brazil as the HM-1 Pantera, while China's Z-9W is very similar. This airframe was ultimately re-engined with MTR390 engines.
