Overview of the outside exhibits belonging to the Canadian Warbird Heritage Museum. Note the two 727s hiding in the background, of which there were a total of at least eight dispersed around the field. It's a long time since I've seen so many 727s together in one place. The Buffalo was formerly ST-AHP of the Sudanese AF but has been restored in this UN scheme to commemorate the Canadian crew of the real '115461' who were killed when the plane was shot down over Syria on 9th Aug 1974.

This B-25 was assembled in Kansas City in early 1945 but never saw military service. It was operated as a civilian transport for over 25 years and then left abandoned at Wilmington Airport, Delaware. The aircraft was beautifully restored by the CWHM to wear the markings of 'Hot Gen', a B-25J of RAF No. 98 Squadron that fought over North West Europe during 1944-45.

It was acquired by the Canadian Warbird Heritage Museum from the Swiss Air Force after the fleet was retired in 1995 and is displayed in the markings of a Mk. 3 that flew with RCAF No. 400, City of Toronto (Auxiliary) Squadron based at Downsview in the 1950s.

This is one of 1550 Tiger Moths built in Canada from a total of around 7800. The Canadian version was less nimble than the British version due to a jettisonable cockpit canopy, cockpit heating, wheel brakes, a tail wheel and a more powerful engine. However , these modifications were much more suitable for harsher Canadian conditions. This aircraft served with 12 EFTS, Goderich, ON and 4 EFTS, Windsor Mills, QC until 1945. After a long period of storage it was made airworthy again by the CWHM in 1977.

This Avenger built by General Motors, Eastern Aircraft Division in 1945 and flew with the US Navy as 53858 until the early 1950s. Later it operated as a spray plane and then on forestry protection duties before being sold to a French aircraft preservation group (hence the previous F-WQON reg.) and is now under restoration to flying condition by the CWHM.

This 1946 D18S started off carrying passengers and freight between Florida and Maine. Then International Nickel (INCO) operated it for nearly 25 years hauling men and equipment to prospecting sites and mines in Canada and Central America. The aircraft has been restored by the CWHM in the colours and markings of a detached photographic section of the RCAF, circa 1944, which was stationed in Winnipeg.

The CWHM Canuck was built in 1958 as a Mk.5 all weather interceptor but later converted into a Mk. 5D ECM aircraft and used to simulate enemy aircraft during NORAD exercises. The aircraft is fitted with wingtip fuel tanks instead of rocket pods to extend its range for it's ECM missions. It served in an electronic warfare role with No. 414 'Black Knight' Sqdn in North Bay, ON until Dec. 1981.

The Bolingbroke was intended as an improved version of the Blenheim but immediately pre-WWII the British were in urgent need of actual plane numbers on the ground rather than down-the-line projects. Development was handed over to the Canadians and the end result was 626 Bolingbrokes produced between 1939 and 1943. The CWHM's trainer Bolingbroke is currently being rebuilt to flying condition from the remains of eight aircraft, salvaged from Manitoba, during the mid 1980s.
