It is being used to train and qualify CG aircrew and maintenance personnel as well as developing flight and maintenance procedures.

During the Vietnam war this KC-135A was converted to 'Combat Lightning' configuration to perform radio-relay duties over the Gulf of Tonkin. Subsequently converted back to a tanker and then to an E she went on to serve with the 63rd ARS/ 927th ARW at MacDill AFB, FL before being retired to AMARG during May 2007 where it is stored with the PCN/Inventory No. AACA0160. Note the bleached 'Wings of Freedom' nose art.
