This Duck served previously with the US Coast Guard as 33587. After being SOC in 1946 she passed through a series of ciivilian owners and appeared in various films, including 'Murphy's War', before retiring to the National Museum of the USAF where she is on display as a circa late-1940s USAF rescue OA-12 48-563. This was the first C-130 to be converted to a AC-130 'Spectre' Gunship, the conversion being carried out at Wright-Patterson AFB. It is fitting, therefore, that she is now on display there at the wonderful National Museum of the USAF.

The bomb bay of the B-36 almost seems more reminiscent of the interior of a giant cathedral than a space designed to carry 86,000lb of a conventional or nuclear payload (almost 10x that of a B-17!). This B-36 is on display at the incredible National Museum of the USAF.

During a training flight in Feb. 1970 this aircraft was involved in a miraculous incident after entering an uncontrollable spin that forced the pilot to eject. Unpiloted, the aircraft recovered on its own, apparently due to the balance and configuration changes caused by the ejection, and miraculously made a gentle belly landing in a snow-covered field. After minor repairs, the aircraft was returned to service and last served with the 49 FIS before being retired to the museum in 1996.

In reality this F-94C is 50-980 but painted to represent a Starfire from 60th FIS, Otis AFB MA, circa late 1950s. She carried no guns but rather rockets in the mid-wing pods and more in the radome ring that were shielded by retractable doors.

From March 1954 onwards it served with the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron deployed at Komaki AB, Nagoya for secret reconnaisance overflights of the Soviet Union, China and North Korea. These aircraft were unarmed but note the fuselage bulge in order to accommodate the film magazines for the cameras.
