This restored P-51 is displayed at the Museum of Flight in the colours and markings of Lieutenant Colonel Glenn T. Eagleston while he was CO of the 353rd FS, 354th FG based at Rosières-en-Haye, France. The exact identity of this Mustang is unknown but it is an ex-IAF machine probably acquired by Israel from surplus Royal Swedish Air Force stocks in 1952. The Swedes acquired nearly all of their 100 P-51s from war-surplus USAAF stockpiles in Germany at the end of WWII.

This P-47 was rescued from gate guardian duties at La Paz airport, Bolivia and shipped back to California for a complete rebuild and restoration, which was completed in 1981. Now on display in the Personal Courage wing of the Museum of Flight as 42-8205 'Big Stud' of Col. Robert Baseler's 325th FG 'checker tails'.

After seventeen years of service with the USAAF this C-45 went on to save countless lives as a medevac aircraft in Oregon and Northern California. She was built in 1942 and finally retired in 1980 so fully deserves her place amongst other great aircraft at the incredible Museum of Flight.

After seventeen years of service with the USAAF this C-45 went on to save countless lives as a medevac aircraft in Oregon and Northern California. She was built in 1942 and finally retired in 1980 so fully deserves her place amongst other great aircraft at the incredible Museum of Flight.

In truth I only went up to the Museum of Flight's Personal Courage Wing as there were too many people about everywhere else. This Corsair was built by Goodyear in Akron, OH during April 1945 and assigned to the USN serving aboard USS Intrepid. Afer the war she was transferred to the Naval Reserve and stationed at NAS Sand Point. On July 29, 1950 she ditched in Lake Washington following a non-fatal midair collision with another Corsair and was not recovered until 1983. Post-restoration she is now on display in the Museum of Flight although on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola, FL.
