A former US Army UH-1H (ex 67-17725) at its home base, nicely lit by a low late-afternoon sun.

This Dallaero Lodestar was still under restoration when this photo was taken. It has its props missing and the "Superman's Daughter" nose art has partly worn off, but other than that it appears to be in good condition. The aircraft made its first post-restoration flight here on 26 Nov 2011 and was later based at Mount Pleasant, TX, painted with USAAF insignia on fuselage and wings.

After having been based at California City since at least 2006, this former US Navy R4D-1 (ex Bu01977) was flown out to Fulton County-Brown Field near Atlanta on 14 Dec 2012 and registered to the Coca Cola Co. a few weeks later, on 3 Jan 2013.

Registered to Baja Air on 5 Nov 2002 and initially based at Brown Field, San Diego. Their base had been moved to California City by late 2008. In Mar 2011 the aircraft was sold to Priority Air Charter, becoming N467KS in September of that year.

In 1987 this Convair was used by the NASA as a Space Shuttle Crew Escape System testbed. It was fitted with a CES (Crew Escape System) mockup on the left side of the rear fuselage. The aircraft was stored here at California City by 1993, and preserved by 1997, reportedly by a set-up called the California Museum of Air and Space.

An early HS.125 stored at California City. It was still here by Oct 2011, and was moved to India by road and ship a month later. Fate unknown.

As of Sep 1987 this Convair was used by the NASA as a Space Shuttle Crew Escape System testbed. This photo still shows the CES (Crew Escape System) mockup that was fitted to the left side of the rear fuselage. The CES was a candidate concept developed to provide crew egress capability during Space Shuttle controlled gliding flight. Actual tests of this system with this Convair began on 20 Nov 1987, whereby life-like dummies were pulled from the modified aircraft's side hatch mockup by tractor rockets. The aircraft had been stored here at California City by 1993, and preserved by 1997, reportedly by a set-up called the California Museum of Air and Space.

This brightly coloured Antonov 2 is the former LY-AFT, hence the partial registration on the fin. It carries the full reg LY-AFT under the wings.

Former NASA Convair 990 (ex NASA 810, and N710NA / NASA 710 before that), which was withdrawn from use on 11 Aug 1995 and stored at Mojave, CA. In 2000/2001 it was placed on display as seen here, at the entrance of the airport. It is still in the NASA colours, but with titles, logos and registration removed. The NASA tail markings were restored in 2018.

A rare Percival Prince preserved in poor condition in Frank Motter's Thunder Air Museum. In the 1960s this aircraft flew for the Decca Navigator Company as G-ALWH (faded titles still clearly visible on the nose). Sold to the USA in Nov 1976 and left Biggin Hill, UK on delivery on 23 Mar 1977. It last flew in 1978 and was stored at Van Nuys, CA. It went through several owners without ever leaving there, before ending up in the hands of Frank Motter in early 2009. It was dismantled at Van Nuys in Feb 2009 and trucked to the museum the following month.

The Skycrane helicopter is an impressive and unique beast.

In Jan 1953 this old B-25C (ex USAAF 41-13251) was acquired by Howard Hughes's Hughes Tool Co., which had it converted it for executive use. It was fitted with rear doors, a bathroom and large bed, possibly for Mr. Hughes himself. It was wfu in the late 1950s and stored at Culver City, CA. In Jul 1974 they donated it to the museum, then still named the Antelope Valley Aero Museum. The museum closed in Jun 2015, and the B-25 was sold to San Simeon Air. It was dismantled in late 2015, and the forward and center fuselage was trucked to Breckenridge, TX for restoration. The aft fuselage, wings, engines and other parts were trucked to Nut Tree Airport at Vacaville, CA. The current status of this restoration project is unclear.

This unmarked Chickasaw at the Milestones of Flight Air Museum is usually quoted as 55-4943, but this is almost certainly not correct. That serial is quoted on a modification data plate in the cabin, but the fuselage main data plate quotes serial 53-4441. The latter is usually considered to be the most relevant and most reliable plate. Following the museum's closure in Jun 2015, this helicopter was moved to the Estrella Warbirds Museum in Paso Robles, CA in late 2015.
