slide scan from the NK collection. - Hapag-Lloyd inherited seven BAC 1-11s, when the company took over BavariaGermanair in January 1979; five of those received the full Hapag colour-scheme. D-ALFA had seen its initial airline services with Bavaria since February 1971; and should be withdrawn from use as YR-JBA in 2001, when its last operator Jaro Airlines went into liquidation.

Turbo-Union's G-AXLX made its first flight on 21/AUG/69 and was a frequent visitor to Munich-Riem; shown here in its later colours. Sold a few months after this photo was taken, it flew as HB-VBW for two years and then as N3118M until ca 1989. The airframe was parted out by Dodson Aircraft Parts at Rantoul KS, the fuselage was last noted there in 2013.

This 1978 Metro was one of three delivered to Lineas Aereas Privadas Argentinas, the first private airline in Argentina to be able to compete with the government owned Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral Airlines. The Metros were sold in the USA and Inland Empire Airlines leased all three in November 1979. This one went to Britt Airways when Air Chaparrall (who had absorbed Inland Empire) ceased operations. The aircraft was recently with Carson Air in Canada as C-GKLN from 2007 - 2017.

In July 2009 LX/Swiss were celebrating 30 years of continous service from Zurich to my home airport Nuernberg. To honour this occasion, Swiss came in with an A340 instead of the regular Avroliner. It is also the reason I uploaded this image from my archive, the Metroliner of Crossair was the first aircraft type used on this route.
