VH-POM was this aircraft's third Australian identity having been firstly VH-BIC then VH-TOM. It became VH-POM in October 1966. At the time of the photo it was plastered with its London-Sydney air race, race number and sponsorship stickers but the race had been run and finished. -POM was a starter at Gatwick on December 19, 1969, but it is not known if it arrived at Bankstown with the rest of the field on January 5.

One of my earliest slides just before (fortunately) switching to Kodachrome. G-ANBL was received by BOAC on 2 March 1957 and was leased by Britannia Airways from June 1965. Sub-leased to Southern Cross just for a month and returned to Britannia who then purchased her, but scrapped at Luton July 1972 after 18 months' storage. An Airlift 707 (background) is one thing I don't have in my collection...
