Pilots of F22, the Swedish UN squadron in Congo, posing in front of one of their jets. At the end of the mission in 1963, seven of the nine J29B fighters, including 29365 / I, were blown up by the Swedes as the non-afterburning J29B was being phased out and the costs of bringing the aircraft home could not be justified. MATS Globemaster II at the modern Kamina airbase during the Congo Crisis. Known as BaKa to the Belgians, this had been a Belgian flying training centre. The Belgian government had also made plans to rule from a 'national redoubt' in Kamina in case of a Soviet occupation of the motherland. Photo by: Gilbert Casselsjö / Flygvapenmuseum

Negative envelope states this as "G-AKSB" but the last letter which is all that is showing is definitely an "E" so I believe this to be G-AKSE which was based at Biggin Hill from around June 1961 to April 1963 when it became F-BLHE. It suffered a fatal crash at Ushart, Brittany on 28 September 1966.

This Catalina was delivered to the Dutch navy in 1943 as Y-79 and was later reserialled P-79. It served in Ceylon and in Indonesia until 1950. On 10 January 1953 it was delivered after intensive overhaul with its new serial P-217 to the Dutch naval air base on the island of Biak in Dutch New Guinea. There, it was withdrawn from use on 12 August 1957 and placed at the gate. This picture was taken in 1962, when Dutch New Guinea was handed over to Indonesia.

Photos of A85-441 are rare. It was written off in a midair collision at Point Cook on June 6, 1964. While both pilots survived, Bill Robertson flying -441 was critically injured. He did resume his RAAF career three years later, rising to the rank of wing commander and commanding No.5 Squadron. Awarded the DFC in Vietnam where he flew UH-1 Iroquois. Photo by Errol Walker.

Very early picture of two F4H-1s that had been taken over from the USN by the USAF for test purposes. These were assigned USAF serials 62-12168 and 62-12169, but here they still only carry their former USN BuNos (1)49405 and (1)49406 respectively. 49405/12168 was later converted to YRF-4C prototype and struck of charge on 17 August 1971. 49406/12169 crashed on 8 March 1967 near Holloman AFB.
