The PA-6 first flew in 1946. It had a all-metal tail and fuselage but the wing was wood with fabric covering. NX580 was flown until 1956 when it went into storage. But in 2009 it was reregistered as N390UZ to be restored. A second PA-6, c/n 6-1 NC4000M appeared in 1947 and was all-metal. It did not enter production. The captured German cruiser Prinz Eugen sailed to the USA in 1946 with two Ar 196s on board. The ship's catapult was installed at Mustin Field and some test launches were carried out with spurious markings painted on this aircraft. These were simply copied from an old publicity photo of Ar 196A-4 GA-DX, c/n 0124. This airframe, really an Ar 196A-5 built by Fokker in Amsterdam, is currently in National Air and Space Museum custody for possible restoration. The other Ar 196 from Prinz Eugen is now back in Germany, at Nordholz.
