Seiji Yoshihara in the cockpit of his Saro A.17 Cutty Sark, the only example built with a single engine, in San Francisco Bay. It appears that Yoshihara intended to fly this aircraft solo across the Pacific from the USA to Japan, but it crashed at Oakland. Details are hard to find. In 1930, Yoshihara had flown Junkers A50 Junior D-3 from Berlin to Tokyo and in 1931, he attempted a Pacific crossing in a float-equipped Junior, J-BENB, but crashed it off Hokkaido.

14 Fokker D.XVI's (275 - 288) were delivered, of which the first few aircraft had a Jaguar engine. They were troublesome engines which often caused problems and the need for a revision well before the indicated maximum flight hours of the engine. 277 was equipped with a Panther engine in July 1932 and set an altitude record (9587 m / 31,453 ft) in June 1932. In 1935 the aircraft was equipped with a different Panther engine and a three-bladed prop (with no armament). The aircraft was eventually taken by the Germans at Texel. The pilot here is Gerhard Sandberg.

Hangar C at Schiphol was used as a night shelter for visiting aircraft. Supposedly named Svealand, the ABA G24 crashed at Tubbergen, Holland on 31 August 1932. Behind the tail of the Farman F.170 Jabiru F-AIDT there appears to be an old Fokker F.III, D-716. There are four more Lufthansa aircraft: three Rohrbach Ro VIII Rolands, D-1712, D-1692 and D-1314, and a Focke-Wulf A 17, D-1388. The Czechoslovak Fokker F.VIIb/3m would appear to be OK-ABT, which was not registered until March 1932; however, the Jabiru is listed as destroyed in October 1931. Photo from: Amsterdam City Archives
