Dropping you off right next to the Ras el-Tin Palace in Alexandria. Imperial Airways journeys were not particularly fast, but certainly scenic. The passengers were having breakfast on the Imperial Airways station boat. Coriolanus was brand new, having commenced her maiden trip to Alexandria as flight IE 559 on 20 June and going back to Southampton as IW 557 on 22 June. She carried out evacuation missions from Java to Broome, Australia in February 1942 and was transferred to Qantas as VH-ABG later in 1942. The last Empire flying boat in service, she was withdrawn on 23 December 1947 and scrapped soon thereafter. Photo by: Sophie Petersen / National Museum of Denmark

VT268 was later converted to a drone and shot down in 1961. RAF Fayid was abandoned by the RAF in 1956 and became an Egyptian air force base. In the 1980s the EAF moved a short distance to Fayed air force base built by the USAF. The RAF station is slowly being reclaimed by the sand. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand

Skymasters acquired by KLM in 1945 received semi-military markings with orange triangle insignia as civil operation was still difficult on the route to the Far East. They were already inscribed in the civil register. NL-309, ex 42-107445, was PH-TAK but the civil mark was probably never applied as the aircraft was sold as G-AJPL in June 1947.
