This F-4 was delivered to the USAF during 1965 and served in Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Cuba, Europe and the Middle East. During Desert Storm/Shield this F-4 flew 172 sorties, more than any other Phantom and carries nose art to make that point.

Although named a 'Mustang' the F-82 has only a superficial stretched resemblance to a P-51 Mustang as it was, in fact, a totally new design and the last prop fighter to be ordered in numbers by the USAF. This F-82 on display at the National Museum of the USAF was built as a B-model but has been modified to a G- and painted as the aircraft flown by Lts. Charles Moran, pilot, and Fred Larkins, radar observer, 68th F(AW)S, when they shot down a North Korean La-7 on 27th June 1950 over Kimpo AB.

The T-41 trainer was a standard Cessna 172 light GA aircraft purchased by the USAF for preliminary flight screening of pilot candidates. Most went into service at various civilian contract flight schools, each located near one of Air Training Command's Undergraduate Pilot Training bases. This crashed in 1941 due to engine failure about 70 miles SE of Fairbanks. Uninjured, the crew hiked to safety but the aircraft was abandoned and remained in the Alaskan wilderness until recovery by helicopter in June 1968. The aircraft was recovered in remarkable condition with only the wings requiring extensive restoration. Now on display at the National Museum of the USAF.

The SPAD XIII C.1 was essentially a larger version of the SPAD VII with a more powerful V-8 Hispano-Suiza engine. This example was built too late to see any combat but was shipped to the US after the end of WWI. It carried the registration N2030A and is now on display at the National Museum of the USAF.

It is no exaggeration to say that the modest and unassuming DHC-2 is one aircraft type that deserves to be labelled as 'great'. The USAF flew more than 200 of the military U-6 variant for Medevac, courier service, passenger transport, light cargo, reconnaissance, rescue and aerial photography missions, the type even saw service in both the Korean and Southeast Asia Wars. This example is now on display at the National Museum of the USAF.

The MiG-19 was the first Soviet production fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight. The S-version was equipped with a long range 'Svod' navigation receiver, 30 mm canon and hardpoints uder the wings for bombs or rockets. This example was obtained from the 457th Technical Evaluation Squadron bases at Nellis AFB, NV and went on display at the National Museum of the USAF in Oct. 94.
