The F6U-1 was the first USN jet aircraft to have an afterburner. 122479 is the only survivor of the 30 F6U-1 a/c built. It was restored over a ten year period (2002 - 2012) by the Vought Aircraft Heritage Foundation. It arrived at the museum in February 2012, and is on display on the flightline area.

This F4F-3 was assigned to VF-72 from 24 June 1941 through 6 December 1941. It later served with VF-9, and was briefly loaned to FAA Squadron 892 for training use in the U.S. during July - September 1942. Its last assignment, from May - August 1943 was with the Carrier Qualification Training Unit (CQTU) at NAS Glenview, IL. It was lost in Lake Michigan on 17 August 1943. The a/c was recovered from the lake on 22 August 1990, restored, and is on display inside the main museum building.

In 1987 it was finally retired to the National Naval Aviation Museum. In 2016 the a/c went through restoration and was repainted. VMF(N)-513 had this scheme on one of their F3Ds in Korea. Their number "13" F3D had been lost in action so the replacement was given the 12 7/8 in hopes of better luck.

This one is a non flying exact replica, using the same materials as the original A-1 including an original Curtiss 75 HP V-8 engine. The other was a flying replica, which had some modifications for safety reasons, as it was flown in the 1961 anniversary airshow over San Diego Bay. The flying replica was lost in the San Diego Air & Space Museum fire in 1978.

Originally delivered to USN as PB2Y-3 BuNo. 7099, later converted to PB2Y-5R. Sold surplus in 1946 to Hughes Tool Co. and registered NR69003. In 1973 Hughes donated the Coronado to the museum. This slide shows the condition it was in when received. After a multi year restoration the PB2Y-5R is now on inside display in the WWII gallery.

A/C retired from active service in 1973, last stationed at NAS China Lake. Built under USAAF contract as C-47B 43-49442, but delivered new to USN as R4D-6 Bureau Number 50811 in November 1944. In 1984 this a/c was transferred to the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robbins AFB, where it is currently on display.
