CH-47 Foxtrot, the latest version of the mighty Chinook. This helicopter was ordered by the Dutch government in 2007. The Foxtrot was delivered to homebase Gilze Rijen in 2013 after it made its first flight in December 2010. It carries Foreign Military Sales (FMS) serial 07-08890.

De Kooy is a naval airfield but the D.XXI fighters of 1 JaVA/1 Regt were based here briefly during November 1939 and again from 10 April 1940. This was arguably the top Dutch fighter unit and it did fairly well in air combat when the Germans invaded one month later. Note orange triangle national insignia, carried as of 1 October 1939. Flying from Kandahar Air Field to Tarin Kowt (Uruzgan) over war-torn Afghanistan during a deployment in 2008. 298sq was then assigned to the 1(NLD)ATF ISAF that stands for (1st (Neterherlands) Air Task Force International Security Assistance Force that was operating from Kandahar.
