First flying in 1929 this unassuming monoplane changed the face of aviation by opening the market of private aircraft ownership. This example was acquired by the Smithsonian in 1946. Restored in 1976 it was only briefly displayed here but it was later moved to the Udvar Hazy Centre.

The Aeronca C-2 was the first truly light aeroplane certified by the Bureau of Aeronautics and produced in quantity in the US. This C-2 is the production prototype, first flying on 20th October, 1929. After the establishment of the National Air Museum in 1946, Aeronca answered a call for historic aircraft so this C-2 is now on display at the NASM's Udvar-Hazy Center.
