Aircraft took off from Northolt with snow frozen on the wings and climbed like a train. Left wing contacted some rooftops, aircraft slewed through 90 degrees and came to rest on the roofs of two houses on Angus Drive in Ruislip. No one was hurt. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands))

DH.86 Express with original one-pilot cockpit. Crashed at Glasgow - Renfrew after one year of service with RAS and rebuilt with two-pilot cockpit. Leased to Imperial Airways in January 1937. Crashed on approach to Cologne - Butzweilerhof at night on 15 March 1937. The two crew and one airline official lost their lives. Dutch postcard.

The aircraft was operated by RAS between 03.35 and 02.39.

Railway Air Services Avro Anson G-AHIC is operating their schedule from Croydon and on the Belfast (Nutts Corner). Its titles have been deleted prior to RAS merger into British European Airways on 01.02.47.

This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAF in 1944 as NF865. Registered G-ALXT in 1950, to Ceylon in 1951 as CY-AAI, later to 4R-AAI. Returned to the UK in 1974, and added to the Strathallan Aircraft Collection the next year. Painted in Railway Air Services colours seen here in the late 1970s. The museum acquired this aircraft in the Strathallan auction on 14 July 1981, and it has been on display at Wroughton in those same colours ever since.

"City of Birmingham" served Railway Air Services from March 1935 until sale in February 1939. It has just arrived on Ringway's newly completed all-grass airfield in July 1938. Fron family album.

This Avro XIX has had its titles deleted prior to merger into BEA but retains the 'RAS' symbol on its fin. It is operating the schedule from Croydon via Ringway to Belfast (Nutts Corner). Photo obtained from Avro many years ago. Later converted to Srs.2 with metal wings.
